Coalsack

An absorption nebula of interstellar dust, about 4° across, in the Milky Way in the constellation Crux. The nebula reflects most of the light from the stars behind it but a fraction is absorbed, causing the Coalsack to glow feebly with about a tenth of the brightness of the surrounding Milky Way.
